Special Education: Understanding Your Rights and Responsibilities

Attendees will learn the basics of special education law, with a focus on parental rights and responsibilities, and be prepared to meaningfully participate in their children’s next case conference.
Margaret A. Jones, Esq. and Nicole L. Goodson, Esq. founded Disability Legal Services of Indiana (DLSI), a non-profit legal organization that provides free and low cost legal services to children and adults with disabilities in Indiana, primarily in education matters.
Ms. Jones earned her Juris Doctorate, cum laude, from Indiana University School of Law in 1988. She maintains a private law practice in Indiana representing families of children with disabilities in special education matters, in addition to her duties and responsibilities with DLSI. Ms. Jones has also served as a volunteer GAL for Kids Voice of Indiana.
Ms. Goodson earned her Juris Doctorate from the University of Michigan Law School in 2004. She maintains a private practice in Indianapolis in the areas of special education, estate planning, family and corporate proceedings, in addition to her duties and responsibilities with DLSI. Additionally, Ms. Goodson is an adjunct faculty member at Ivy Tech Community College. She has also served as a volunteer GAL with Child Advocates, Inc.
