FUSE Offers Summer Social Skills Group

FUSE is pleased to offer a social skills development group this summer to students age 11 to 15.  Social Skills groups are designed for students who need help learning how to make friends, initiate/ maintain conversation, participate in group activities, compromise, and win/lose when playing games. Weekly lessons will use a combination of formal and informal activities in a small group atmosphere.  Sessions include leader-directed instruction with hands-on practical exercises that may include video modeling, skits, crafts, group games, the iPad, and a simple snack for skill reinforcement.  Unstructured conversation also allows students to practice skills without adult interaction but with instant feedback from the leader.

Sessions will be on Thursday evenings from June 9 through July 14 from 6:30-8:00 pm. Sessions will meet at the New Palestine Town Hall in their Community Room, located at 42 E Main St, New Palestine. Registration fee is $60.00, payable in advance or at first session. Limited scholarships are available for those with financial need.

This program will be done in a small group, so only 10 openings are available. It is not limited to any particular diagnosis, but students do need to have verbal communication skills.  Applications will be reviewed as they are received, and parents will be notified if their child has been enrolled within a week of application.

Application deadline is June 2, 2016, and the  program could fill up quickly so submit your application today! A waiting list will be maintained if we receive more applications than we have available spots.
